Curated Tablescapes with Flowers Vasette

The styling direction for each of our projects starts with flowers. For Creative Director Kylie Forbes, flowers provide the foundation for the palette and mood of each shoot and environment, and are a vital component to communicate the feeling of each of our projects.

The choice and flower selection steers the inspiration and embeds a clear vision on how the space will stylistically evolve. No matter the project, or occasion, flowers add an evocative detail, elevating a space, adding colour and movement to our Cantilever Interiors curated spaces.

Favourite Summer Blooms?

I love Hydrangea’s, Dahlia’s and Garden Roses. When I was young, my mother grew Garden Roses at home and the house used to be adorned with the incredibly striking scent. Every time I stop I smell the roses, fond memories of my childhood return to me.

Favourite blooms to keep, why?

Adore Autumnal Hydrangea/Paniculata Hydrangea as we get later in the season of summer and as Autumn starts to come in. After you have enjoyed them for a couple of days, you can dry them out and enjoy the natural, locally grown and sourced products for months in your home.

Favourite blooms to gift, why?

Peonies en masse; they are opulent, fragrant and short season flower; blink and you will miss them. When they are in season, I love to spoil that person with something you may not necessarily buy for themselves.

What is the first thing to consider when selecting flowers for a Summer Entertaining event/grazing table/feast?

My go to is always to consider the event and any colouring I want to feature. Flowers Vasette has been known for over three decades of colour blocking our varieties, and I think about events the same way.

Colour and style; then what is in season and how will I get the abundant and full look, whether it be the entrance table, grazing table, the bar, centrepieces or bathrooms.

How to get the best out of flowers during the Summer months?

Changing water daily, keep out of the direct sunlight and heat (as much as possible) and give their stems a little fresh cut every time you give them fresh water. For Hydrangeas and Phalaenopsis Orchids, if they start to welter, give them a bath with their petals under water as they hydrate themselves through their flowering petals as well as their stem.

Flowers to take to a BBQ lunch?

I love seasonal natives for a BBQ lunch; whether it be Banskia’s, summer waratahs or tall foliage’s to bring the garden to the table.

Flowers to take to a dinner party?

I often takes friends Tuberoses and Delphinium’s'; they have a delightful scent and similar to the Peonies, they may not be a flower people will purchase for themselves.

What are your top styling tips when it comes to styling with flowers?

Simplicity and choose you colours. If your home is neutral, add some colour; if your house is colourful, add in more colour. Oh, and don’t over think it; sometimes the best arrangements are those, that are organic.

Favourite playlist you’ll be listening to this Summer?

You may know, I love Jazz - Classical or Smooth, there is something about it that always makes me smile. You will notice this in Fitzroy and Londsdale Street, we always have Jazz playing.
